Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a multifactorial disease resulting in not enough tear production or increased evaporation of tears and associated with ocular surface alteration and inflammation. Tears are complex in nature and are crucial to maintain healthy eye. Many underlying medical conditions can cause or worsen dry eye, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease as well as laser eye surgery. Tear production can also be effected with the use of some medications and supplementing natural tear production with artificial tears or lubricants is often not enough. In many cases, there may not be a quick fix for the problem.

Treatment Option for Dry Eyes
Standardized Blood-Derived
Serum Eye Drops (SED)
How is it prepared once it
arrives to the pharmacy?
The serum may be passed through a 0.22-μm pore-sized filter for bacterial sterilization and clarification. Aseptic technique in a ISO 5 Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) will be used to produce a finished product by diluting with a sterile, preservative-free solution, to produce a tear substitute that is specific to the patient, and contains many important growth factors and nutrients normally found in patient own healthy tears. Since the blood and tears have an almost identical salinity and pH, there is no issue of burning or stinging upon instillation.
How much does it cost?
The cost for autologous SED varies by the amount of blood drawn and the number of bottles produced from the sample. Contact Enovex Pharmacy for more details about the pricing.
We are dually licensed by Board of Pharmacy & Department of Public Health to provide Autologous SED.
